About Credit Card Processing, Shopping Carts, etc...

I came across this forum thread where someone wanted an open source shopping cart asp.net component, and the following response got my attention

"These regulations are coming into effect THIS YEAR, shutting down all merchant accounts and their ability to do business on the Internet....
If you only want your shopping cart to work for the [only] next few months, go open source."

So I followed up on the regulations that were being talked about...

I just noticed that Rick Strahl (of West-Wind) has updated his excellent article on how to process credit cards.
As I was looking at it, I thought it was a good time to do a quick scan of the available options out there…

There’s also this book: Beginning ASP.NET 1.1 E-Commerce: From Novice to Professional.

.netCHARGE
Numero Uno is still .netCHARGE.  Which is too bad, as its pricing/licensing is too restrictive.
But it has everything you could possibly ever want (including PayPal payment solutions).

IP*Works E-Payment Integrator

  • Works with…mine!
  • E-Payment Integrator
  • Single Server, Unlimited Payment Gateways $399 (ouch!)
  • Royalty Free, Unlimited Payment Gateways$2,499.00  (ouch!)

Others that work only with Authorize.NET

I also found this chart for ones that work only with Authorize.NET:

Comparison

IT DevWorks CodeSine Inventive Labs Olvio IT DL techn
ologies
Primal Blue
Software
Znode
Control I-Bill IT Authorize.Net (no affiliation) Robocharge olvio.ecommerce DLAuthorizeNet pbAuthorizeNet E-commerce Integrator

I went and looked at them and these are my notes:

CodeSine appears like its gone out of business

  • “CodeSine has been temporarily closed in order to improve its product line and make changes to the business model and website functionality.
At this point you can not order any CodeSine products or access your account.
    Thank you for your support.”

Robocharge:

  • ActiveX (hum…)
  • “New Version 3.3 Features - Released 8 September 2003” Nuff said…

Olvio:

  • Free…and looks moderatly healthy
  • But, again, only with Authorize.NET
  • Hum…maybe a good solution…

PrimalBlue:

  • Looks ok
  • Again Authorize.NET only

ZNode

  • Excellent Store Front…but not in my price ranges (4k +)

DLAuthorizeNET

  • Looks ok
  • Uses Authorize.NET
  • With Source: $39.99

Conclusion

Basically, the big ones are IP*Works and .netCHARGE.
After that, I would go with Rick Strahl’s solution. It just seems to be the most forward ready…
And if you don’t have the time to code, maybe try Oscillo…

If anybody knows of others that are good…but cheaper than IP*Works and .netCHARGE…PLEASE post me a comment!
